I am having some serious trouble with my wireless connection today. All seems to work well for a while and then suddenly the internet connection become extremely slow.
I pinged google a few times and get a variation of timeouts, successful replies, then timeouts again.
Because of this pages take forever to load.
ANy ideas what the issue could be?
I have another laptop in the house connecting wirelessly with no issues so it's not the router.

Your getting Wireless interference. Try changing the channel on your WiFi. It is probably set to 6. I like channel 9 because most people use 1,6 and 11 and I like being on a channel not being used by other WiFi.

Seems to be working again.
How could that cause an issue on 1 laptop but not another and especially with different keys and network IDs being used?
...especially odd considering how many wifi networks are close together in cities now...

There are a number of things.

One laptop may have a weaker transmitter than the other.

One laptop may have been next to a large body of medal which was grounding out the signal.

One laptop may have been next to a noise generator like a Microwave, Cordless phone, Soda Machine any thing using high voltage.

Pick you poison. To check the signal strength I would download inSSider and figure out where your dead zones are...
