Specs: Win XP, not sure
Hello, I am trying to help a friend out who said his computer won't start up. When powered on, Windows starts to load but stops and a blue screen of death appears. I opened the machine and made sure all the components were connected securely, HDD, RAM, etc. Also tried starting in safe mode and the same error message appears.

The message says:

A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Here is a pic of the screen with more details if needed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/608339...

Does this mean the hard drive crashed?

Any help where to start is appreciated.

Thanks!
Eric

✔ Best Answer
0xC0000006 = STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR
STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR = Your hard drive is failing. Get a new hard drive and mourn the loss of any data on that laptop.
