Transferring files between computers

July 3, 2014 at 00:15:25
Specs: Windows XP
I have a bunch of naruto episodes i want to take off my laptop and put on my desktop. what is the best way to go about transferring the files, excluding burning them to cd's. For some reason my wireless router wont let both computers connect to it. And also both of my network cards on these computers are messed up, it says network cable unplugged even when the eithernet cables are in. I thought it was fixable by setting the duplex in the settings but its not working now.

someone got an idea?

Are you attempting to connect the two computers directly by using a common network patch cable? If so, you need to use a crossover cable.

That said, why don't you fix the issue with the computers not seeing one another? I assume both can connect to the internet through the wireless router?

The first posting (before mine above) was a link to what seemed to be some decent software for transferring files over the internet. It wasn't spam or anything obnoxious but for some reason it was removed. I believe this was the link:

It would make sense to resolve the connection issues first - both wifi and also cat-5/ethernet; as then the files can/will go across very easily.

Often free trial versions of software have limited functionality; but usually enough to give it decent trial... Possibly you are exceeding the limits of the free trial functionality?

Thank you for posting back; and for me at least - useful to know of a software package that "actually works" and allows a user to do a simple PC to PC transfer - when conventional networking may not be an option.
