transfer data from system drive (C) to D

Specs: Windows XP
My operating system windows xp got corrupted nd now i want to transfer some important data from c drive to D drive before formatting C drive. In case I don't have another PC to make this HD as slave drive to transfer the data how do i do it? Is there ne third party bootable software or a software which can give a text environment to me to transfer the data.?

maybe burn a dos disk, load the dos system. and use command.

MichaelB51026 nobody uses dos since dos doesn't support ntfs, long file names etc.

There are tons of bootable cd images that are downloadable

jumbo304 be aware you won't be able to access your files after the new install. To correct this issue web search taking ownership of files.

Also, be very careful that you don't format the wrong drive/ partition. You should also verify the copied files are actually there and readable. That can be done when using a live OS disk.

Another point to make. Even if the eventual result is that you must format and re-install I suggest you attempt to repair the installation. That is how you improve your computer skills. Most things can be repaired if the issue is just software.
