I have and old Toshiba Satellite with an NVIDIA GeForce4 420m Graphics chip. I recently did a re-installation of Windows XP Pro. When it completed everything was fine except for the screen. For some reason there is a black bar of unused space spanning from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen on the very right side of the screen that is about a half inch wide. Does anyone have any suggestions of what could have gone wrong?

danieloconnor, no 'for sure' answer, but several SWAGs. First thought to mind is screen resolution. Since you did a reinstall, possible the default is incorrect for your machine? Next comes the screen display itself. Maybe you need to customize it? Simply hover the cursor over the offensive border until it becomes a double ended arrow. Then drag the edge where you like (you can reposition more than 1 at a time). Once satisfied with the display, exit using the option under 'file' (only needs to be done once) rather than the handier 'X' at top right. That forces Windows to 'remember' and use the settings next time.

Thanks Ed in Texas, I figured it out though. I had to reinstall the graphics driver, the one on the restore CD was old and needed to be updated :) Thanks for the advice though on making windows appear at the right size next time they open. It always made me mad how I would spend the time to resize a window and have it not even save my preference.
