Thumbdrive unable to format

June 30, 2009 at 01:29:10
Specs: Windows XP, 512 MB
I have a 80GB Kingston data traveler, Recently i Installed new window XP to my laptop but i have left the drive attached to the laptop, In the middle of the installation i removed the thumb drive. The next when i checked my drive, its showing a raw file system with zero size.

Then i tried to format but window cannot format it, I tried with disk management and command prompts but still it says window cannot format it.

Is there any other way to format the drive, Is the disk corrupted? Please Help me, thanks

Hi palden

normally thumbdrives are robust enough to withstand such acts..but you never know.....

Try using some disk management software like partition magic to format the drive and see what it says.....

Palden, "In the middle of the installation i removed the thumb drive." Sounds to me like the drive was sorta in the midst of it during installation when it got interrupted. Corrupted?
Can you install the drive now? If you can, Windows should be able to do most anything to it. If not, it may be beyond hope?
