XP Home Edition. I "accidently" unplugged the memory while the HP Pavillion a500y was running. Now when I turn it on only the fan go. No noise from harddrive. I've tried using different memory but no luck. I'd really like to get my pictures and still use my hp. But I'm poor so any $$$ solutions will have to wait, which isn't the worst. Thamks for any help. The comp info listed below is not the prob computer.

How do you "accidentaly" remove RAM from a running computer? And why would you even be working inside a computer while it's running? Your carelessness most likely damaged something, maybe the RAM, maybe the motherboard, you didn't supply enough info to deteremine what the problem might be. Unplug the power cord then remove all the RAM. Plug the cord back in & try to boot the system. It should begin to beep. If it doesn't, you either fried the board or the CPU. If it does beep, the CPU & board are probably OK & the RAM is fried.

Here's your computer specs:

If you fried your motherboard, remove the HDD & connect it to a different computer, that way you can retrieve your photos & burn them to a CD or DVD.

Turn off the computer, unplug the power from the wall socket. Remove the main battery too. Now hold the power off/on button in for 20 seconds. Put it back together, then try again and see if it helps - probably not, but it just might.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
