I am not quite sure what you want, Open Office is a full replacement for Microsoft Office, and then there are several text editors for html, etc. that are listed when you use Google Search.

A text editor is considered different from a document editor. A text file is usually considered an ascii file without formatting characters. The text editor supplied by Microsoft is Notepad. As a replacement I use Note Tab Lite.

I think that in W2K - and certainly XP - notepad became wordpad?

As "capt" suggest what you are really looking for, as an alternative to M$-word, is another similar word-processing utilty? And he points you to one such?
