run disk cleanup off the accessories/system tools menu. Everything you can check can be removed from your system safely

I tried that but they are still there! These temp files are in the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp folder, which is a different file from the Windows\Temp folder. So maybe these don't get deleted when I run Disk Cleanup?

that user name needs to run disk clean up or you as admin can delete them. Nothing in a temp folder should be of importance.

I tried runnng it again in both accounts and nothing happened. I then downloaded a file cleaning program - that worked and everything's still working ok. Still don't know why Disk Cleanup didn't work but not to worry, problem solved now.
Thanks for your help.
