Takes forever to open

Specs: Windows XP
For some strange reasons, when I try to open "My Computer" on my Netbook it takes more than 3 minutes to open even when I use windows explorer. This hapens now after opening a file which was infected by a virus that I don't recall the name now. I think it did damage some files on my PC, I couldn't even install a printer; for the software installation issue I had to copy the "win.ini" from another PC of the same model because that's what I was prompted to.
Also after this virus infection or files damage, when I start up Windows it leads me to the start up mode selection (Normal Mode, Safe Mode, etc).
Is possible that some files a missing or damaged? Please help.

Download, install, update & run these.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
If it won't run, rename the downloaded mbam-setup.exe file to mb.exe to help work around certain malware that will block it from being run.
If it still will not run.
1: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Malwarebytes.
Next redownload Malwarebytes but rename it before you download it to your desktop. As you are in the process of downloading when you get to the point that the "enter name of file to save to" box appears, in the "filename" slot, rename mbam-setup.exe to something.exe, then click Save.
If it installed but will not run navigate to this folder:
2: C:\Programs Files\Malwarebytes' AntiMalware
Rename all the .exe files in the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder and try to run it again.
Perform a quick scan or a full system scan on your computer to detect and quarantine/remove the malware found on your PC.
