so I performed a system restore on my Windows XP Laptop and it was successful, the first time. What I was unaware of is, apparently you can't do another system restore just after performing one already? So now, I get to my welcome screen and after I put my password in, it will start loading and then automatically log off right away. I don't even get the chance to see my desktop, it's just a big grey screen. Is there anything I can do manually to fix this? I have tried safe mode and it does the same.. just quicker. I have run diagnostics, not sure if that would have helped but it passed. HELP PLZ? This computer holds ALOT of important work/school info and I can't afford to lose what hasn't had the chance to get saved. I want to try to fix it without losing the work.. possible?

When you start up your computer and start tapping the F8
Instead of trying Safe Mode - Try last known good configuration.

i tried that too and it also didn't work. i tried normally, last known good configuration, safe mode (networking, command prompt) and i tried the boot menu..I'm almost out of options I think. That, or I need professional help with this one. Any other suggestions? :o)
