Hi and thanks in advance,

Windows XP, SP3, fresh install, all current windows updates.

I installed ESRI ArcGIS on my machine this evening and everything went smoothly. Program runs fine, however when I rebooted my machine I got the 'system has recovered from a serious error' message. I only got it once and subsequent reboots have not produced any errors. I did not take note of any specifics regarding the error. System appears to be running fine.

Can I assume that this was just some wierdness related to installing the software and forget about it, or do I need to dig much deeper into this? Just curious if this is something that occasionally happens that is not as serious as it sounds.

Yes, if you've only gotten it once and haven't received it yet again, then its probably nothing to worry about.

Those often come up when a program is not installed/ran/executed properly and usually comes up just once.

Nothing to worry about.

You should be Ok, XP has the ability to auto fix a lot of glitches, here is what to do if you get it on every reboot.

You receive a "System Has Recovered from a Serious Error" message after every restart

Thanks very much!

I just needed some reassurance that it was nothing to worry about. ArcGIS is a rather large bit of software with lots of extensions and such, and I think it just made my machine momentarily grumpy. I've now rebooted three times since the install with no repeat error messages. Just gonna chalk it up to random software wierdness.

Thanks again!
