|Lenovo (formerly IBM PC Company) systems have the ability to set 3 different types of hardware passwords.|
Power-On Password: If you set a power-on password and forget it, you have 2 options. 1) Go to the Lenovo support web site and find the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your specific model. In it you will find instructions to reset the password, or 2) Take the system to a qualified service technician to have them do it for you.
Hard Drive Password: The hard drive password has two modes: User and Master + User. If you set a Master and a User password, and you know the Master password, you can reset the User hard drive password. If you set both Master and User passwords and don't know either password or if you only set a User password and forgot it, you will have to replace the hard drive and all your data will be unrecoverable.
Supervisor Password: If you set a supervisor password and forget it, there is no way to recover it. The system board (motherboard) must be replaced.
Detailed information about which passwords can be reset and how to do it can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model. You can find available manuals here:
