Specs: Windows XP, AMD 2.194MHZ
MY OLD HDD DIED, SO I GOT A WD640 GB OUT OF A DIFF PC. WENT THRU SETUP ON MY COMPAQ 5750; COULDNT REALLY GET IT TO DISPLAY THE NEW DRIVE CORRECTLY SO I JUST TRIED TO GET IT TO BOOT/INSTALL FROM THE XP CD. WHILE LOOKING THRU MY PAPERS ON THE PCS I FOUND OUT IT WAS A YEAR AGO WHEN I HAD TO REPLACE MY FIRST HDD THAT CAME WITH THE PC.

Please turn off the Caps Lock.

By WD640, I'm guessing you mean Western Digital 640GB? Is it IDE or SATA? If it's SATA, there's a trick to getting WinXP to install. However, the error points to bad memory. Find the stop error on this page:

re' possiblememory issue.

A long shot. With all power removed (and mains connector removed) remove RAM sticks. Clean their edge connectors with a soft pencil type eraser. wipe edge connectors with a lintless soft cloth (maybe even paper towel). Re-insert the sticks and then remove. Re-insert a second time and remove. Then re-insert a third time and leave installed.

Restore power and see if things haveimproved with respect to the error message?

Yes, edge connectors often give trouble when you work on a computer. A small movement is all it takes.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
