Start up on Dimension 2400 freezes on Windows

April 16, 2011 at 19:51:10
Specs: Windows XP, 224
I have a Dimension 2400 and it won't start up to win xp.
When I turn it on, I get a message "Sorry, but windows had to shut down" and it gives me choices to:
Safe start
start up normally
start up to the last best setting????or something like that.

everything I try, it goes to start up to windows and then freezes on xp start up.

I don't have a cd, and can't get access to the sys restore.
When I run a start up it on Safe Mode, it freezes on a line:

It was given to me, and I don't know a thing about it.

Maybe you should give Safe Mode more time to open.

If you have access to another Windows XP computer and take the
hard drive out and connect it to the working computer as a slave
and run Error Checking, that will probably get it working good enough
to be put back.

Windows XP Slave check.
1. Error Checking- CD not needed
Start - my computer - right click the extra disk - properties - Tools Tab -
Error checking section - Check now - check mark both boxes - Start -
This requires a restart to begin.

mup is usually the hardware issue but can be caused by data issues.

You can borrow anyone's real xp cd to use sfc.exe or attempt a repair using the cd.

Dell may even still sell a cd to recover it.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
