Why not use 'Hibernate' mode instead?

As was already stated, Standby & Hibernate are power saving features for mobile devices, not desktops. If you're trying to be "green" or if turning your machine on & off is too much of a chore, right click on the desktop screen, click Properties, click the Screen Saver tab, click the Power button - you can then adjust your Power Scheme settings to your heart's content.
