SPOKE TO SOON -- How to reformat C: drive XPWindows 7

Specs: Windows XP
Hi again, guys.

Well, I tried rebooting from my Windows 7 Home Premium CD in order to install the new OS, but no soap. I rebooted to Safe Mode, and got the following scream:

Windows Advanced Options Menu

Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA Mode
blah, blah, blah . . .

I tried all of the available options, but nothing worked. I got to a command prompt, where I tried: C:\format, C:\E:\format, E:\format -- nada. Threw my hands up in disgust and am currently contemplating throwing the damned thing off the top of the Empire State Building . . .

Any other suggitions?

Muchas gracias in advance.

(PS -- Whenever I restart the machine, it >>>without fail<<< opens right up to XP!!)

You need to set the boot order to boot to the CD drive BEFORE the hard drive. Then you need to start the computer with the Windows 7 DVD in place.

What exact type of Windows 7 disk do you have? Restore, full, etc.?

You can't order Windows to self destruct. The only way to format is to do it outside the Windows environment by booting off the Win7 disc or some other 3rd party disc. This was already explained to you in your other thread.

Hopefully you have at least 2GB RAM (more would be better), if not, you won't be happy with Win7.

EDIT: BTW, I see that you called the Win7 disk a CD, it's actually a DVD, so hopefully you have a DVD drive.

The boot order is in BIOS.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
