smss32 virus cleaned, now can't save anything

Specs: Windows XP, Core 2

Found out the hard way that worldguns.ru is now a breeding site for a certain virus instead of a site about guns. Anyway, I cleaned out the virus ( http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/0... ) and now whenever I try to save a file to anywhere on my HD from either IE, or firefox, I hear a PC speaker beep then the file is automatically deleted in front of my eyes. Any help on this bizarre issue is welcome, thanks. PowerMac 9600(1 ghz G4) 512mb RAM 50gb SCSI ATi 9200 PCI
