Slow start up to search window.. and freezing

Specs: Windows XP, ??
When logging into internet, compute is slow to bring up search window. Once search is engaged, search window goes white, if program opens mouse and key board freeze cannot change windows. The computer is old about 5 yrs, McAfee runs twice a week.

You supplied zero specs so we have no idea what you're working with. If you have very little RAM, you shouldn't expect your system to perform well, & if you run crapware like McAfee, that just makes the situation worse. It's also possible your CPU is overheating & throttling back, or you may simply have too many useless apps loading in the background at startup. Everything at this point is just a guess because you've given us very little to go on.

If you want to now the basic specs of your computer, hold down the Windows key and the Pause-Break key at the same time or right-click on My Computer and select properties. If you want to speed up your computer defragment your computer once in a while, clean up the Registry using CCleaner, and please get rid of McAfee.
