Hello,

My computer is starting up slow, like 5 or 10 minutes I have to wait... When it gets past the start-up screen (the maker of my computer, Compaq) it starts with just a black, blank screen and a thing that looks like a underscore, blinking... but just one. It's been doing this for about 2 or 3 weeks now, maybe like a month. I've been looking for the reason why. I know there could be many reasons why but none of them worked for me. I don't know what to do, I don't want to have to re-install but I don't want to go through this either... lol

It's not the internet, however I have dial-up :-( but the computer is real slow, every not and then the computer freeze's for a for minutes. I've checked the computer for mal-ware/spy-ware/virus's, ect. but all pretty much is clean, other that like tracking cookies. I don't know what to do. Please can you help me. Thanks :=)

Thank You,
Michael

did you try disabling all startup items and then booting up? A great tool for that is winpatrol:
http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html
It gives many more options than msconfig

Comodo Internet Security
Spyware Guard

If you have 2 sticks of ram, try removing one and then running it. Try this with both ram and see if there is a difference. You could have some defective ram.

Try removing the start-up and shut down sounds as they slow it down too.

You may also want to check for malware with malwarebytes and remove all it finds.
Also use Ccleaner slim and remove all it finds and also use the registry cleaner by clicking on that icon and removing all the problems.
The 2 utilities I mentioned can be found on one page in my signature link.

See if that helps getting you back on track.
