skype will not open xp

Specs: Windows XP
I have had skype for years but now I upgrader to the newer version. Installed a newr camera and am unable to open skype up. I keep installing and uninstalling skype. I get the icon on my desk top but it will not open either form the icon or the program. I have credit left on my account but cant utilise it. Can someone help me with this problem. I have installed and uninstalled many many times with no luck.

thank you for your suggestion. I have reinstalled windows but with no luck. I finally discovered through this website a suggestion to go back to the original SKYPE version. I uninstalled SKYPE 5.1it and reinstalled an older edition 4.1 and that works fine. I will not install the newer eddition until the bugs have been ironed out. I just wish that SKYPE would publish such information.

What Service Pack are you running, many programs have a service pack level that is required. For instance, the new Avast 6 will only run on Service Pack 2 and later.
