Since Windows Update 32 bit browsers not work

October 15, 2010 at 03:55:49
Specs: Windows XP x64, i7 / 6GB
I have WinXP x64 SP2, was running IE6 32+64 fine. I installed Windows updates and which installed IE8 32+64. IE8 32 displays page cannot be displayed, IE8 64 works fine. FF 32 has same problem and FF 64 works fine. I found the 32 bit browsers cannot resolve names as I can connect to google.com via IP.

Please help anyone!

Note: Reinstalling IE, netsh Clearing, Virus Scanning, Spyware Scanning, sfc /scanall, IE reset and reinstalling network card has not helped.

Just to say, some Windows Updates can cause other problems to happen in XP. For example:
If I install the IE 6 Security Update Q832894, I then find that all the Help Topics were gone in Windows HELP Index. All came back when I removed
"Internet Explorer Q832894"
from Add/Remove Programs list.

SP2 has that update also.

Just to point out that Windows or IE 6 Updates could affect some Windows functions.
-------------------
I would say that best for you is to Try System Restore to a date when all was good.
Start >All Programs >Accessories >System Tools

Using System Restore too many times can cause
more harm than good. After doing a restore
that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the
Restoration, and try another restore point, or
just do the UNDO.
