Simultaneous multiple audio outputs in Windows XP?

Specs: Windows XP
I read on several forums that simultaneous audio outputs is supported by Windows XP. I have XP and try to send audio from my computer via the digital USB-output (towards my receiver) as well as via the audio output (towards my desktop speakers) simultaneously. It doesn't work: I have to choose between them in the 'sounds and audio devices' of the control panel in stead of marking them both as 'default'.
Does anyone know if it's possible to play them both simoultaneously, and how?

I don't know if there is a way to use both at the same time but my experience has been that the sound out of the receiver is so much better than any PC speakers that I would connect a second set of speakers to the receiver & run the wires anywhere you want.
