My sister's PC crashed and is asking for reinstallation disc. She purchased the desktop with WinXP already installed and no disc. was included with her purchase. Can she use my disc to bring her comp. back?

Unlikely unless your disk is the same type as your sisters original installation. She would have to use the licence key that came with the computer and it will probably not work with your disk if it is not the same type. That is an OEM for Dell.

If you contact Dell they should send you an installation disk for a small fee. I find it hard to believe that Dell did not include an installation disk unless your sister bought the computer second hand.

Yes, she bought the comp. from Ebay. We both have Dell computers.

In that case it will probably work providing your sister got an licence key when she bought the computer. She cannot use your licence, not legally any way. Yours may work but it may restrict your ability to reinstall in the future.

The licence key should be on a sticker on the laptop.

So as long as she uses her own license key and MY installation disc.....I will still be able to reinstall on my PC using my disc OK if needed in the future?

Is License key AND product key the same thing?

Yes, to both questions. Its the key you enter during installation.

The disk itself is irrelevant providing it is the same type the key refers to. Retail, retail OEM or OEM provided by the manufacture. It's the installation key that is important,
