Specs: Windows XP
I can't turn off shadows under menus. Went to Properties-Appearance-Effects and unticked the box for this then pressed Ok then Apply and OK. Went to System-Advanced-Performance - Settings and unticked the box for this there and pressed OK. Restarted comptuer- shadows still there. What else can I try?
I picked the wrong heading- I have service pack 3 installed.

Glee, I'm assuming you mean the shadows under the text of the Desktop icons. Follow the instructions at the link below.

Remove icon border shadows on the desktop

Disregard this reply as I now realize that you indeed mean the shadows under the Menu items. My mistake.

Fixed it. Went to System Properties,Advanced,Settings and picked a different setting (adjust for best performance),then OK. Then went back to Let Windows Choose what's best for my computer, then OK and then it let me shut off shadows under menus in Display Properties the recommended way.
