Setup cannot find temporary installation file

Specs: Windows XP SP3
I am trying to reinstall Windows XP on my
laptop(from the hard drive) and when it
enters setup i get a message saying the the
"Setup cannot find the temporary installation
file. Hard disk on which setup placed temp
files is not available to Windows XP."
The system reboots and i cannot enter
Windows in normal or safe mode. My DVD
drive doesn't work , hence cant even use
installation CD. Please help!

The DVD is not it damaged or does it not boot from the DVD drive? If the latter then you need to go into your BIOS and change the boot order to do you DVD drive before the HDD.
(How this is done depends on your computer because every computer is different. Need to know the Model and manufacture to help further.)

If you are not good with computers, I always recommend you seek out some help because this is not an easy thing to do a system restore because you can make things worse.

The DVD drive doesnt work. And i am pretty decent with computers, not
the first time i am reinstalling.

Replace the defective DVD drive.
