Setting Hardware Wizard to search web?

Can anyone tell me where to find the setting to make the Hardware Wizard search the web (or Windows Update) please?

I used to get that facility and now I never do. On my XP Pro PC the search is either my HD or CD drive (I don't have a floppy drive.)

Hardware Wizard search the web

Add Hardware Wizard - The majority of devices you might want to install these days are automatically recognized by Windows, but occasionally you do run across a non Plug and Play device that needs to be installed manually. The Add Hardware Wizard can be launched two ways:

* Control Panel [Classic View Only] > Add Hardware
* From a command prompt > hdwwiz.cpl

Do the opposite to this by removing > : DontSearchWindowsUpdate
Turn off Windows Update device driver searching

Thanks. I posted here after two hours of googling!

But after further research I had a response in a Usenet newsgroup which led me to a solution. At first sight it looks similar to yours.

However, my problems with this pesky Hardware Wizard have escalated greatly. I must have spent 10-15 hours researching and experimenting so far, but still no solution. I've posted about it in another group (uk.comp.homebuilt) but will also now do so here as well in a separate thread 'Hardware Wizard problems with USB devices' shortly.
