Double click on the Service name,
then on the next display, called Properties, look at "Startup Type".
Make sure it says Automatic.
Information about XP Services

Also to say,
Most Virus and Spyware scans are likely to work better in Windows Safe-Mode.

Turn off system restore (which deletes all your restore points) > boot into safe mode > run a virus scan > boot into normal mode > turn on system restore.

A lot of virii will hide in your system restore points, re-infecting your machine after your virus scanner has removed it. By using the above procedure, you avoid the possibility of this occurring.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Can be a possible worm somewhere on your network or an infected computer sending out rcp reqeust that stop that services from running. I had this before where random machines showing these symptoms. When i do scans on these machines they are all clean. After much running around i found this one machine with no anti-virus and behaving funny.I cleaned it and from there no problems accurred. I'll say the best thing is to do make sure they are fully updated, disconnect them from the network and do full systems scan on them. Also make use of microsoft MRT scan tool.Clear out all your temp files asswell.
