Ummm - not at all familair with the dreaded Vista - other than toyed with it briefly...

Is there anything resembling a boot-menu option accessible via F8 (as in NT/W2K/XP) - and if so can you get to it and try both last known good config and also the actual safe-mode?

Either one may resolve/fix it for you?

Vista? this is XP forum. Try System restore to before the problem. Run Malwarebytes to see if it is an infection. (Or just get Windows 7 - But if you don't get back to 'normal', Format, and do it as a clean install - save files first though)

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

OK so you're in the correct forum; now any response to the suggestions in the above posts - system restore to an earlier date; last known good config; actual/genuine safe-mode (the last two via F8)?

last known good config only works once, every time you boot up it saves a new "good" configuration, but it sounds like you have some severe viruses i'd definatly run malwarebytes like some one else recommended if that doesnt work, you may need to re-install windows
