SD & Pro Duo Memory cards reading problem

Specs: Windows XP, Athlon 4600/1024
I have an epson office printer with media card slots. I use SD and Pro Duo cards for camera etc. Trouble is that my printer sees whats on these cards when inserted and drives are assigned to My Computer but if I try to open those drives I either get a message that I must format OR I get a message that I must insert the media! I have tried assigning a new drive letter but that hasnt worked.
The printer is networked and I cant access the media from my networked laptop either.
Printer is seeing all on the card so the cards aren't at fault. Windows just isnt seeing the content of these cards...all of them. Anyone any ideas? Thanks

How old is your computer? Older computer with multicard reader can read only SD cards with up to 2GB capacity. 4GB and larger SD cards are in a new architecture called HCSD (High Capacity Secure Data or SDHC). They are not compatible with older card readers that were not built to access the new cards.

It is the same with a 512mb pro duo and a 2gb plain sd card. Its an up to date epson and my pc is only about 14 months old. Duo core 4200 athlon Lots of ram...a reasonable machine really. Strange. Nothing wrong with reading cards before I installed this new office printer...just cant work it out. Thanks
