My computer was running fine this morning. It is a custom built computer that I created and I have had no problems with it. Recently, I tried to load a video game to play from a disc (one that I play regularly) and it froze. I had to do an emergency shut off because of the freeze. I than turned the computer back on and I got a staticy visual on my monitor. I've tried express recovery 2 (I have a gigabit motherboard) to no avail. I have checked all of my hardware connections and they seem fine. I have a nvidea gefore 8600gt and I even plugged in a different monitor to see if it was the problem and the other monitor displayed the same problem. Everytime I try to restart the computer something different happens, sometimes I can't get to the windows desktop - but sometimes when I do it freezes and the screen goes black and staticy.

By staticy I mean the screen flashes multi colored rainbox looking squares all over.

Please help!

The symptoms suggest a hardware problem. First try a different video adapter. Power problems can cause a wide variety of problems, as can the motherboard. Bad RAM is also a possibility. These are just the usual suspects with video problems.
