I can't scan with Paint now. I'm thinking I disabled a bunch of stuff in msconfig, and I might have snagged something there? I can still scan using bulkier software (HP) but I'd rather keep it simple. Any thoughts? Thanks. ~ John Johnson, Lincoln, Nebraska

I don't think any missing or disabled startup item would cause that problem as the scanner driver does not run as a startup item at all.

Provided you've installed the scanner driver it would be loaded everytime Windows starts and would be available to every application that can access the driver.

All I can suggest is you re-install the HP scanner driver.

My suggestion is undo what you disabled in msconfig. I don't believe Paint would use the HP driver but the windows twain driver.
