running Pc Linux-format partition for windows

Shuttle Xpc sa76g2 barebone system

Specs: Linux i686, 2 gig- 1.6 MHZ
Can't get empty partition to take xp..have worked all day on this..had ubuntu before with dual boot. no matter how I format empty partition, windows won't let me install there

If you have a partition manager set all but the desired partitions as hidden, Set the desired partition active, Windows only likes primary active partitions. Make sure you have an alternate boot device.

Delete the partition and then recreate it and then format it.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Done that..deleted and recreated it several times yesterday..Getting ready to give it another go..Going to try Fred's solution today also..thanks

Fred, tried yours...no luck.. hid linux, installed xp, linux was gone..If I booted live cd and reinstalled linux, xp was gone...just bought a terabit external drive...gonna try that...thanks,,,,,,,,,,,Jim

I've installed linux after xp and 7 and 7 after linux many times. In the linux after install you must select the in addition to existing OS so that grub can be installed,

Did you create a partition for linux while you were in windows or in linux...I know it is simple if you are using Ubuntu..done that on three of my laptops and desktop but have since switched to PClinuxOS-KDE and it is not as simple
