Restore to factory settings.

Gateway laptop / Mx6932b

Specs: Windows XP, 2GB
I need to restore my old laptop to factory settings. I have backed everything up and therefore aren't bothered about losing things. I have lost the recovery cd and when trying to use the Windows XP Home Edition disk I get the error saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer".
My laptop is a Gateway MX6932b
My hard drive is a Toshiba MK1246GSX
I have not been able to find any driver updates online and I am completely out of ideas now as I don't want to have to purchase a new recovery disk. Also I can no longer find any drivers on the Gateway website.
Any help is much appreciated!

if setup has not found any hard disk, perhaps you need to install sata drivers first.

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

Definitely a SATA issue. You either need to run the HDD in IDE compatibility mode, OR you need to press F6 at the beginning of the XP install & load the SATA drivers from a floppy, OR you need to create a new XP disc that has the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it.
