Replacing only the OS without reformatting

Specs: Windows 7
Hi there, good day to all the members and viewers of this site....

I got an Acer EL1850 system unit which has windows7 installed on it wd the following spec:

CPU Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7500

RAM 1GB DDDR3 memory

OPTICAL DVD-Super Multi Drive

VIDEO Integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics

LAN Integrated LAN 10/100

A newer generation of computer.
It works fine until I got a problem with user accounts and "printer spooling" problem after my younger siblings used it, or I used say....they are newbies!

Now, since I am used to XP....I want to install an XP OS to my unit without reformatting the drives,
I heard that newer computers has the capability of changing or only replacing the OS without touching all the other softwares.....

Can anyone pls give me the steps on how to execute the replacing of OS? (from windows7 to XP specifically)

There are a lot of walkthroughs to show you how to achieve what
you want. HERE is one such page. Personally I would recommend adding a separate drive rather than partitioning the original one, though you can do this if you want to.
