I had to reaplace my CPU as I bent the pins on the old one. I would never had taken the old CPU out except when I was cleaning the dust out of the fins, I got my clumsy hand wedged between the fan and the CD drive and the whole works came out...fan with CPU attatched! After I realized I bent the pins (which were impossible to straighten out), I bought a new one that is supposedly the exact same one...noupgrades to faster speeds, etc. just the same old OEM CPU. When I power up the desktop, everything spins and and the CPU fan blows, but no beeps, no monitor. Am I missing boot-up disk step or something?
Disregard. It helps if you seat the CPU solidly into the socket. All is good now.

If none of the pins on the original cpu were broken off, it's tedious, but not impossible, to straighten the pins.
