Replace Windows CE on Netbook with Windows XP

September 24, 2010 at 05:10:54
Specs: Windows CE, AMD
Hi all

I have recently been given a netbook from a friend in Japan which is running CE but is quite tied down and cannot do much with it. Is it possible to wipe the HD as normal and install Win XP?

What options do i have here if that is not possible?

Kind regards

Ii is very unlikely that you will be able to install Windows XP.

Windows CE is a cut down version of Windows which designed for small devices with limited memory and other resources.

There is also the possibility the Windows CE comes embedded in ROM and cannot be removed.

Find out how much memory you have and how much disk space before you start.

It will not work, most of these Far Eastern laptops do not use X86 CPU's.

Windows CE is an Embedded O/S:

Last but not least does this Netbook have an X86 CPU ??

i have recently recived a laptop for christmas and is has windows ce on it.
i think CE is crap. Nothing will download. It always says <filename> is not a valid Windows CE application.

i would like to download adobe flash player and windows 8. So i can chat on facebook and go on youtube.

if anybody knows of a solution, i would be most saticfied with a reply on doing the above!<b/>

Windows CE is a completely different OS to Windows XP/Visa/7

The only solution is to use applications designed for Windows CE. Nothing else will do.

The point is that Windows CE is not a desktop operating system, therefore it cannot be expected to do what a desktop operating system does. For the job it was designed to do, Windows CE does it quite well,

I have a question, while we're on the subject of Windows CE 6.0 netbooks from China:

Is it possible to change from CE to Android on these netbooks?

Android can clearly do more and has simpler access to more apps designed for it. These netbooks use an ARM processor. Now, I know Android-x86 is open for use on PC's, but I assume that's not what I would want as it doesn't use an x-86 processor - what would I want? Is it even possible?
