My laptop is in the shop and just received a new hard drive. I have been asked to bring in the "recovery disc" and I did not realize I was suppose to make one so I did not do that. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FE550G and want to know if I take a recovery disc to the Geeks, will they be able to get my comptuer back up and running? Also, where can I find such a recovery disc?

If your hard drive has been replaced and you didn't previously make a recovery set then you missed the opportunity.

You may be able to get or buy on from Sony. There should have been instructions with the new computer telling you to burn those disks.

If you get a recovery set from Sony that will restore the computer to the factory state. Any personal files are gone unless you or the Geek Squad copied them off the drive. I am guessing that didn't happen because yur drive must have been defective.

Or did you change the hard drive for some other reason?
