Recovering 2.5

I'd like to know if I can connect a laptop hard drive to my desktop (via an adapter) in order to recover information from the laptop hard drive? I've tried this, and the system tells me it cannot recognize the primary hard drive when I boot the desktop with the laptop hard drive connected to the slave IDE socket. Any comments?

Do you have TWO IDE channels or just one? Your problem is jumpering on both hard drives on the cable. I am not sure that 2.5" drives have jumper settings for master/slave/cable select.

Look at the back of the drive to the left of the data connector for pins and possibly a jumper. Also look for a label on the top of the 2.5" with a jumper legend on it.

You need to use either Master on your regular drive and slave on the 2.5", or CS (cable select) on both.
