My daughters computer died leaving important files unable to be accessed. The operating program is XP. I have removed the hard drive. How would you recover them?

Assuming the HDD isn't what caused the computer to die, it's easiest to use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAUIA6... or this: https://www.amazon.com/Sata-Cable-L... Depends on the drive in question.

If the hard drive itself failed, some or all of the data may be
recovered by a computer repair shop. I burned out the circuit
board of a hard drive by accidentally touching it with metallic
conducting material while the computer was turned on. That
is something I couldn't do anything about, myself, but the
local computer repair place (Chip Heads) was able to handle
easily, copying all of my data onto two CD-ROM disks. It was
somewhat expensive, though. I think it cost a bit over $200.
