Reboot Loop (0x0000007e) after using ccleaner

January 9, 2010 at 07:51:36
Specs: Windows XP
I recently installed and ran ccleaner and ran both the cleaner and registry cleaner. I then updated malware antibytes, which required a system restart. The computer will reboot during the windows screen. After turning off the automatic reboot on system failure, I get a stop error 0x0000007e. I lost the windows xp CD and the gateway recovery CD. I have a gateway microsoft windows XP Tablet PC operating system disc which when inserted into my desktop, begins a recovery process. I am unsure whether this is destructive or not, as I need to recovery the files on my harddrive. I have made it to the repair windows installation using a combination of a windows XP professional 2002 upgrade CD to boot, and then the windows XP Tablet PC operating system disc when required to verify a windows installation. But there is no windows installation found. I am unsure whether this is because I am using the wrong CD's or if something more serious has occurred causing my windows installation to be damaged due to deleted registry items. Any help would be appreciated, as I am currently stuck.

It's more likely to be Malwarebytes that's removed an important
file rather than CCleaner. If there's data you need to recover then
your best method is to slave the drive into another system or use
a Linux Live CD. I think you may have exacerbated the problem
by using a mix of disks so I'd concentrate on getting the data
back before attempting anything else.

I agree with johnr. Why did you run the registry module anyway? Were you having some problem?

Missing .dll problem. troubleshooted it and ccleaner was recommended. I just created a linux live CD, and this seems to be the perfect solution to retrieve the data. I'll wipe and start fresh after. Thanks
