Really low sound

Specs: Windows XP
So I got a new computer and when I plugged the speakers I noticed how low was the sound- I checked the volume control -max and also control panel- sound is maxed, too. Tried with another speakers, but again really low- you can hear it only if you are in front of the computer and it is impossible to watch a movie or listen to music. So what can it be and what could I do?

Look for software that came with the computer. Sometimes they include a mixer program or software that you can use to customize the sound. Check the volume control if you find it. Also, most speaker kits that draw their power form the audio jack are very weak at best. You should have a set of speakers that use an AC adapter and plug into a receptacle to supply the power. You can get a set of speakers with a sub woofer for a very reasonable price these days.
