Question mark over DVD drive

Specs: Windows XP
This was covered some time ago, but none of the answers suggested works. I tried to copy files to DVD on my Toshiba Satellite using WinDVD Creator, as I have many times, and found it showed no DVD writable drive. Also, no drive icon appeared in the 'My Computer' . I performed a 'system restore',and now the drive icon appears in 'My Computer", beneath a white question mark in a red circle, WinDVD creator still insists no such drive is present. I have checked connections, the computer is clean, and multiple reboots have no effect. What can I do? Many thanks-\Jim

This sounds like you have a missing or corrupt driver. You should be able to download the newest drivers from Toshiba's website and install, usually it's under: support>download>drivers on most sites.
