Solved Problems viewing websites using Acer Aspire netbook wifi

February 9, 2014 at 14:04:28
Specs: Windows XP
I am not sure if this is a hardware issue, a software issue or a settings issue. I have a sky broadband router that works fine with my other wifi computers. I have not used my Acer Aspire One for a couple of years and when I tried to use it today it seemed to have difficulty connecting to Ebay and Google websites for some reason. Has anybody else had a similar problem, or can you help anyway?

Everything's out of date, not just the browser. Run Windows Update, update all your drivers, anti-virus software, etc., etc.

First of all thanks for the replies. Now this is very embarassing but I think that I might have found the answer to my wireless connection problems. Having failed to solve the problem by updating drivers I decided to buy a new wireless card. When I removed the cover to double check the wireless card that I currently had installed it turned out that one of the previous owners must have removed it for some reason, as I had bought the Acer Aspire One Netbook secondhand off Ebay. Sorry for wasting people's time. Hopefully this might save someone else a lot of time messing around in future. This has definitely taught me a lesson. Never forget to check the obvious, and don't assume anything if you are having a problem. Strange thing is when I tried to "enable" the wireless connection it seemed to connect ok without any error messages. There was no message that said that the wireless card was missing, so I wrongly assumed that it was installed ok. Nuff said, lesson learned the hard way. Hope this helps others.
