When it restarts (but before it actually boots), go into the BIOS and change the boot order, so that the hard drive is first. This step isn't usually needed, but I've had a few machines that had to have it done.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

You're not pressing any keys on the keyboard after the reboot, are you?

Most Dell PC's come with a partition on the Hard Drive that when pressing the proper key at startup will enable you to restore it to the factory settings . In other words it reverts the PC back to the was it was when you recieved it from Dell I know my that Dell desktop an XPS400 has a partiton aprx 5 G.B. that held the restore partiton and when my PC recieved a STOP ERROR and I was told the only way to fix it was to restore it using the DELL partiton . However sadly I had set an administrator password and lost the place I had stored it and forgot what it was . At that point my only option was to reformat and re-install the O/S Windows XP MCE 2005 with Update Rollup 2 ! I forgot wat you press on the keyboard to start the factory restore . However Iam sure at the Dell web site you can find directions and if they has this restore partiton on the Dell Laptop you have !
Good Luck ,Nick
