problems installing netgear wireless connecti

Specs: Windows XP
when installing netwear i inserted cd and followed the wizard only to discover that the modem i had did not have anywhere to plug netgear into. I stopped as there was no point continuing.
Now everytime i switch on I have message "found new hardwear" for PCI modem.How do I get rid of this

So you haven't actually connected any hardware? If so, its odd, as there would be no reason for windows to display the message. Only thing I can think of is uninstalling the netgear software (should be entry in add/remove programs in control panel or perhaps on the start menu).

Agreed Add/Remove and start menu should be the first places to check. Failing that you could see if CCleaner (registry part) will remove the appropriate registry entries. I'm not a fan of registry cleaners but they can be useful for specific entry removal and CCleaner is one of the safest.

If push comes to shove the run system restore choosing a date just before the problem came along.
