Specs: Windows XP
Hi guys,

My dad gave me his Compaq Notebook PC to fix it! He told me he formatted it a while ago and he can't remember if the CD/DVD drive stopped working before or after the format!

And he lost the CD that comes with the laptop!

I tried my best to find a driver for the CD Drive in the Laptop!! I couldn't after a very very long search!

I put my Windows XP CD on a desperate attempt to check if the CD Drive works from the start! It did !! On the startup! but when the Windows starts There is no CD Icon nor CD/DVD drive in the Device Properties thingy!

When I saw the CD Drive reads the cd on the start up I was sure then The problem with the driver not with CD Drive!

I made a format to the notebook! Everything went well till the process says 22 minutes left till windows finish installing windows XP! It started to say where is the i386 or something like a folder in the CD Drive.. the CD DRIVE is G:

It start to say G is not a drive with a red question mark on it when it gives me a chance to seek for the windows folder! I guess the CD stopped reading!

Can anyone help me? I deleted the windows installation. now every time i open it says NTDLR missing or something! and I dont know how to get to Windows XP installation to install it again ! And will it stop at 22 minutes remaining again , I mean will the CD Driver stop working during the installation like it did before?

SORRY for make the message that long! Thanks a lot.
