Problem removing IE8

Sony / Pcv-v1

Specs: Windows XP, 2.8 GHz / 479 MB
As tools was not working on IE8 after a disc clean I tried to remove IE8, with the intention of reinstalling it but I kept getting a message set up cannot copy the file ieakmmc.chm
after looking at similar problems on this website I tried Run then C:\windows\$NTServicePackuninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe but when I did this it said spuninst could not be found or had been moved.

Obviously I have messed up somewhere along the line trying to 'fix' it but can you help?
Many Thanks

Download the entire 16MB installation file for IE8, then try installing it "over the top"

First of all can I thank you for your help. It is really appreciated.
I have managed to get IE8 to download over the top BUT tools in IE8 still is not working. For instance if you click on Internet Options it flashes as if it was going to open but then - nothing. Can you offer any more advice to get this problem sorted?

Wow I actually got IE8 tools working again by downloading GlarySoftUtilities.
After spending hours trying to 'fix' it and making things worse all is well between a combination of the advice received on this site and the running of Glary Soft Utilities. Many thanks
