Problem Reinstalling XP on home built PC

September 19, 2010 at 07:43:39
Specs: Windows XP, pentium e5400, 2 gb ddr2 ram, 2 additional if needed
I built my own computer sometime back and it recently crashed and I have been trying to reinstall windows xp without success. I am starting with just cpu motherboard, ram, and video card, optical drive, and I scrubbed the hard drive with active killer utility. It boots from the system screen to the disk for windows, and then it displays the "checking system configuration," and then it just stops, and there is no activity on the optical drive. I have tried on two different optical drives without being able to get through that initial boot screen. I didn't know if there were thoughts about this issue.

I have everything connected fine, the xp installation cd started to boot and it goes to the checking systems configuration screen and then it just stops. Can't really think about what the problem is.

Have you checked the RAM?

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.

I don't think it is the problem, I have changed out the ram already.

Is it an SATA HDD? If it is, you have to load the SATA drivers before XP will install.
