problem reinstalling windows

Specs: windows xp pro, amd athlon 1.14 ghz/512
Trying to reinstall windows, got it formatted,
but everytime i try it gets to windows setup,
setup is starting windows, then just stays
there. I have tried different cd players. Did
mem test, all good. I have tried this a dozen
times and it wont go past ,setup is starting
windows. Disk is clean and legal.
any ideas??

Are you using a SATA hard drive? If so, you need to supply SATA controller drivers when you first start the installation. You either need a floppy drive or slipstream the drivers into your WinXP files from your CD.

Temporarily remove all non essential external hardware like printers, scanners, webcams, external or flash drives, card readers, etc.

Instead of formatting, try removing the partition.

ok, i got it, it turns out it was a faulty ethernet card. thanks all for your help.

I don't think the ethernet card is faulty. Because I have seen the same error with ethernet card when the file system is corrupt

Did you follow the above guide removing the partitions?
